My 101 Resurrected - # 7

Thought I'd continue on with my 101!!! Hahahaha.. at this rate I'll BE 101 by the time I finish!!

I'm a Skin Care Product Junkie!

I just ADORE skin care products.... I guess it all boils down to my resistance (fear) of getting older... so I'm always looking out for the
HOLY GRAIL of skin care products.   I KNOW that there is nothing that has been formulated that can stop me from getting the dreaded laugh lines.... but it doesn't stop me from trying!! Plus its just so much FUN to try new products.

Years ago, I used to have the BEST job ever working for Lancome... it didn't help that I also worked along side one of my very best friends... we had a BLAST.  AND we also got hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of free product every year... it was soooo much fun!
And for years, even long after I left Lancome, I still swear by their skincare products.... but I've also tried skincare products in all different price ranges... I'm not a skincare snob.. i'll try anything! LOL!!

HOWEVER I have just found a new line that I think I love even better then my Lancome products... Alouette's Platinum line...
For those of you who think of bad home parties and heavy skin clogging products when you hear the name Alouette - THINK AGAIN...
Alouette has CHANGED.... And no I do NOT work for Alouette or am I in any way affiliated with Alouette... I just happened to try their trial size package of their platinum skin care line... and I have to say that my skin hasn't felt this soft or looked this good in a long time!  I'm sold and will definitely be purchasing the full size products! Until the next new Wrinkle Cream wonder comes along...... (grin)

Is Spring Finally Here??

Hi all!  I just can't believe it's been this long since my last entry!! Major oops!! Where DO the days go??

Today, was an absolutely GORGEOUS day!  Almost all of the snow melted - and the kids were playing street-hockey... Spring is officially here!!
And not a day too soon.. I've been wanting so desperately to get outside... y'all know how much I love being outside.. and this winter in particular I really felt cooped up inside.. I really felt the effects of the lack of sunshine.

I'm really motivated to start my daily walks again... and Luke is at a stage where he is really enjoying sitting in his stroller, looking all around... so I know he's going to love our nature walks as much as I do.
I've also met quite a few new mommies in my neighborhood... one just a couple of blocks away from me is quite eager to join me on walks... so that'll be really nice.

Which leads me nicely into my next topic - I'm really hoping to lose these last few stubborn pounds... I have an important wedding to attend in July and a  highschool reunion as well, and I have the cutest little dress that I'd really love to fit into... !  So I'm going to try to get back to exercising regularly... I really miss the energy, not to mention the self confidence,  I used to have when I used to be fit.  The other day, I actually was out of breath from running up and down my staircase a couple of times - when I was doing laundry!!  NOT cool!
I'll keep you all posted on how I do... and please feel free to keep me accountable!

An update regarding Luke's sleeping patterns - FINALLY after 5 weeks of getting not much more than 3 hours of sleep per night, Luke has been sleeping wonderfully each night... he is now averaging about 8 hours per night!! He's been doing this for the past 2 weeks... so I've been getting a lot more sleep lately which is definitely a GOOD thing.

Speaking of which - it's now past my usual bedtime.. so I'll talk to you all tomorrow!

Nighty night!

Tidbits

Thought I'd share a couple of tidbits while I have a few minutes...

First of all-  has anyone discovered the new website Facebook.com?  It's really neat... you can seek out old classmates, friends, etc, etc!  Very cool site that is become huger (is that a word??) by the hour!  If anyone would like to look me up on facebook - email me at

Speaking of old classmates, I met up with an old best friend from highschool for lunch the other day... it was sooo good to catch up with her!  She still has the same sparkling personality and amazing sense of humor... we spent the whole time laughing... it was so much fun! I really needed the pick me up... Is it just me or does everyone go through some friendship changes once they start a family?? You all know that my best friend moved away... but also I've found that my friends who don't have children have kinda become a bit distant... well maybe 'distant' is not the right word... I don't know...it just seems that the friendship changes a bit... not as tight as it once was?  In any case, it's made me a bit down - as most of my friends either had children quite some time ago (im in my mid 30's) or don't have children at all... I only have one friend with a little baby and she's quite busy these days (totally understandable!) so it's hard to keep in touch... oh well, enough whining for now!! LOL!! I just gotta get out there and meet some new mommies from my area...and try harder to keep in touch with my existing friends!

Speaking further of old classmates, while we had lunch, we talked about the upcoming HUGE reunion that our  highschool is having in June.. we both decided to go!! YAY!! This is going to be so much fun! Can't wait...!!! It'll be neat to see my old friends!  See how we all 'turned out'!! LOL!!

I've been quite tired lately, as Luke continues to wake up every hour throughout the night... luckily he's JUST started to nap a bit better during the day... it used to be 15 minutes max, now he's napping for about an hour... thank goodness... but I have a REALLY hard time napping during the day... i've tried but usually I find that I'm thinking of all of the things that I should be doing! LOL!! Pathetic, I know.. but there you have it....
But at night time, I've been putting him in his crib the last couple of weeks (in his own room)... up until then  he was still in our room in the cradle or in bed with us! So I really think that he's going through an adjustment of having to sleep on his own.... but ALSO he just doesn't know how to soothe himself to sleep when he wakes up... he's not a thumb sucker and doesn't like a soother... lately he's coming a bit attached to a super soft blanket that a dear friend bought for him (Thank you Lisa!!)... so maybe that will eventually help him.. but until then I'm having to help lull him back to sleep each time...

Well that's about all for now... I'll be doing my blog visits soon! Hugs, Hugs

Another Update

Hi there everyone!! Again - a HUGE, HUGE thank you for all of your support and especially, all of your prayers!! This is just so greatly appreciated.

My mom has been discharged from the hospital.  They seem to have found an appropriate medication dosage that will keep her blood sugar from fluctuating so wildly.  So I'm relieved about that.   Now, we just have to encourage mom to eat the proper diet (it's a special diet for diabetic-hemodialysis patients).  So far she is doing well.  I've been doing a lot of research online and have found a sample 2 week diet which I will get her dietician to review before she starts following it.  It'll give her a good start on how to organize her meals.  This is all so new to her, so it's quite overwhelming. She's been used to eating whatever she wants whenever she wants...but I'm sure with God's grace, she'll get through this learning period.

Okay - what else is new?

    • Well, we had a not so lovely incident here the other day.  I woke up on the Saturday morning to go do some grocery shopping, only to find that someone had done some creative artwork with a screw all down the driver's side of our car as well as the trunk.  And I'm not just talking a couple of lines... i'm talking they totally gouged the paint with a screw and did x's and circles, etc, etc... from one end to the other.  And they also punctured the two tires on the driver's side as well.  Nice eh?
Our neighbors told us that they saw a black Ford Focus hatchback type of car driving suspiciously slowly on our street (with music blaring) at about 130am on Saturday morning.  They turned on the alarm on their truck and then the black car took off...
It would appear as if we were targeted for some reason, as we are the only car on our street to have damage.... so for this reason, a police report was filed (my brother in law is a detective - and made sure that special attention was given to our incident)......
I pray that this was an isolated incident and that we were just the unfortunate victims of a random crime.  I hate to think that someone out there has something against us that would cause them to perform such a hateful crime.  So for now, our car is being repaired and we have a nice new Impala rental to drive around!

    • Luke had his first meal a few days ago!! I started him off on fresh avocado (mixed with some breast milk)... he LOVES it!!!  I'll post some pictures of him enjoying his first meal... toooo cute!  After having avocado for 4 days, I've also just introduced organic brown rice cereal.... he's loving that too!  I've tried to hold off as long as possible before introducing solids.  The latest recommendation is to wait till 5-6 months - as it's been found that by holding off till that time lessens the likeliehood of having allergies and asthma.  And since Luke's daddy has asthma, I really wanted to do what I could to prevent Luke from having it as well...

    • I'm reading a REALLY, REALLY good book by Bill  Hybels called Just Walk Across the Room.  Bill Hybels is the senior pastor and founder of Willow Creek church in Chicago... I just love his writing style... so when I saw his new book in my favorite Christian bookstore - I had to pick it up... I was not dissappointed... I highly recommend this book... I think you will gain a whole new perspective from reading it...

    • Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday.. the start of Lent season... I don't know if many of you recall that last year, I attempted to cut out fast food (takeout) during Lent... however my fierce pregnancy cravings for McD's Bacon and Egg McMuffins totally made me cave!! LOL!! This year, I'd like to try once more to cut out all fast food during Lent... I'm trying hard to eat healthy homecooked meals lately... not only is it more  healthy, but it definitely saves money as well!  Is anyone else out there doing anything special for Lent season?

That's it for now...  I'll be dropping by your Spaces to thank you all for your much appreciated support during a time when I really needed it....

Back in the Hospital

My mom is still not doing well at all.  Her blood sugar levels are fluctuating wildly (from 1.0 to 28).  VERY dangerous.  The medications she was given to control her blood sugars are not working for her at all.

I'm so upset with the hospital and the doctors for releasing her before making sure that the meds would work for her... last night she went in the emergency room at the hospital and they added a medication and then sent her home.  Tonight she's back in the emergency room with the same problem - super high blood sugar.  She started off this morning with a very low blood sugar... and it just went up and up and up all day long despite taking her meds... it's now at 28.  Very scary.

I'm going off to meet them at the emergency room as soon as I feed Luke.  I need to make sure that I'm doing what I can to make sure she's getting the best care possible.  And I want them to keep her there where she can be properly monitored, until they know for sure that her meds are working to keep her blood sugar within a normal range.

Please continue to pray for her, and also for my step father who is beyond stressed, trying to take care of her.

Thank you so very much.

Love,
Trace

An Update and a Thank You

A little update regarding my mom:  it looks like she will be discharged from the hospital today.  Her blood sugar is pretty much stabilized.  She has been given a new medication to control her diabetes, so I hope this helps.  She's also been given a strict diet to follow which is specifically for people with kidney failure and diabetes.  The diet is quite limited in what she can and cannot eat... but I hope that she stays motivated to follow it.   With her kidney failure, she will need to go on dialysis 3x per week from now on until a kidney donor is found.  This may take quite some time.   Her body is slowly healing her lung infection.

My biggest fear right now is that she will leave the hospital and not take care of herself.  She very often makes the wrong choices when it comes to eating and taking care of her illnesses, which have now become quite serious after years of neglect.  It can be very frustrating to see someone you love continue to neglect her health and land up in the hospital repeatedly.  But I know that she is the only one who can make the decision to change her health habits and take better care of herself.  I pray that she will make this decision.  I want to spend many more years with my mom - and I want my son to grow up knowing and loving his nanna!  But whatever she decides, I will be right by her side.

I also want to send out a huge thank you to everyone who kept my mom on their prayer list.  I truly believe in the power of prayers and I truly believe in the power and grace of our great God!  Thank you so very much to each of you for taking the time to pray for my mom.  I really appreciate that!  I'll be visiting you all in the next couple of days to say my thank you's to each of you.

Right now, I'm going to go for a much needed nap!  Hugs, hugs to each of you!

Prayers Requested

Hi everyone!  It's been awhile since my last post... so I thought I'd drop a line here and let everyone know that I am indeed still alive and well!
However I do have an ulterior motive... I would dearly love to request a few prayers for my mom... she's in intensive care right now (and has been there for the past few days).  She went into a diabetic coma last week and when she was rushed to the hospital, we learned that she is fighting a severe lung infection and on top of it all, her kidney is failing (she only has one kidney that was a transplant 15 years ago).
She is not eating or drinking very much, despite our pleadings... she says she feeling too weak to eat or drink much...

We've all been so very worried about her.... so I'd like to request that you pray for my mom.  This would be greatly, greatly appreciated!

I'll update again in a couple of days.  Love to you all,

Feeling a tad Blue these days....

I 've been feeling a bit out of sorts these past few days...

  • I've been busy preparing for our move which will be all over by Friday...
  • My house is turned upsidedown in preparation for our move
  • I've been sick for most of the last week... I'm slowly getting my energy back now
  • My mom's been sick too...her health isn't the best, so when she gets sick it takes her a looong time to rebound. Here health has been weighing heavily on my heart these days...
  • I've had to say good bye to my best friend who is now officially in Vancouver.  I miss our daily phone calls already!
  • Luke must be sensing all of the changes around him, as he hasn't wanted to nap lately and he's been waking up often during the night, leaving me feeling exhausted
  • I haven't spent any time with my husband these past few days, as he's been working long hours at the new house: painting, laying down the new flooring...
  • My Patriots lost to the Colts - sniff sniff... this was hard to bear since my hubby's team the Bears have made it to the Superbowl.. guess I'll have to cheer for the Colts! LOL!!
  • I've been so busy that I haven't been able to get outside for much fresh air, which always makes me turn into a bit of a grump-a-chump! LOL!!

All of these things combined have made me feel a bit blue these past couple of days... I'm sure I'll snap out of it once this period of transition is over... I have a lot to be thankful for, that's for sure!!

Well, gotta get back to packing!!  I'll report back in a couple of days...

Busyness!!

We've been doubly busy lately... we took possession of our new home on January 8th... but we're not completely moving in till the end of the month - we have MUCH work to do... we've ripped out all of the carpets... will be installing oak laminate throughout... and we're also painting all of the rooms too... so we've been busy dividing our time between the two homes...

However we DID take time out on Sunday to catch some football!! My beloved Patriots managed to oust the Chargers!!! WOOOOHOOOO!!!! And John's team is the Bears... so he's quite happy about their win too... he's really hoping that his Bears meet up with my Patriots at the Superbowl!! LOL!!!  We'll see what happens next weekend!  What were we thinking? Moving during NFL playoffs????

Also on Sunday I went out for dinner with my best bud Heidi... our last dinner together in a loooooong time, as she's moving to Vancouver next week... sniff sniff.... I've been dreading this for a long time... and the time to say goodbye (for now) is upon us... I'll see her again before she leaves, as she currently lives around the corner from me... but then that will be it... I know I'll bawl... what else is new?!! LOL!!

Luke is doing really well... despite the fact that he's caught his first cold...he's still in a good mood though!! LOL!! The little trooper!
He rolled over on his own for the first time... and he seem super proud of himself too!!
Oh - and it was the FUNNIEST thing... he's really starting to laugh now... real belly laughs... well the other day on the change table, he passed some gas (and not the belching kind!!).. well he thought this was HILARIOUS as he started to really laugh… it caught me totally off guard (as this is the first time he’s really laughed) , and I started laughing…. Which  caught HIM off guard and then he started laughing… by the end I was laughing so hard I was crying…. I’m sure  he had no clue what was so funny, but he was laughing anyways… it was just priceless!!

Well that's all that's new with me... so I'll sign off for now, and get back to packing!!
